Enjoy the Gulf Hospitality in Corpus Christi
Warm sun, ocean breezes and a tropical setting draw many to retire in cities along the Gulf Coast and Corpus Christi is no exception. Located just minutes from Oso Bay, Mirador Methodist Retirement Community puts our residents at the center of all the convenience and recreation the city has to offer.
Recreation
With more than 100 miles of coastal access, a day at the beach is an easy activity to plan. Water conditions range from surf-quality waves to calm and gentle ripples, welcoming both swimmers and spectators to the shores. Many of the beachfronts are maintained and provide amenities to make your visit more comfortable. Restrooms, showers and paved parking are available in some areas and many locations offer excellent fishing opportunities. If shore fishing doesn't offer the experience you want, there are hundreds of charter fishing companies in the area, ready to take you out for a deep sea adventure. For a memorable summer experience, plan an early morning trip to the Padre Island National Seashore to take part in one of the Kemp's ridley sea turtle hatchling release events. Get up close and personal with turtle hatchlings as they emerge from the sand to make their first trip into Gulf waters.
For alternatives to the beach, Corpus is home to the South Texas Botanical Gardens & Nature Center, where guests can admire the beautiful flowers while interacting with butterflies, hummingbirds, reptiles and tropical parrots that call the center home. For a sea-themed adventure, check out the Texas State Aquarium and get a close look at a variety of sea creatures and habitats. From there, head across the bridge to the Bayfront Arts & Science Park where you'll find a variety of museums and activities. Military enthusiasts can enjoy a guided tour aboard the USS Lexington, a World War II aircraft carrier converted to a museum. Flight simulators, Pearl Harbor displays and escape room events provide an interactive educational experience. If you're still looking for an experience that speaks to you, Corpus Christi operates over 180 parks throughout the city, giving you the chance to enjoy the warm coastal breeze while you engage in your preferred outdoor activities.
If an amazing dining experience is your idea of a good time, Corpus Christi offers a variety of cuisines to suit every palate. Fresh, coastal seafood is easy to find but you also have the option to enjoy authentic Texas barbecue or make a stop at one of the many local food trucks. After dinner, immerse yourself in the city's cultural scene by walking through one of the many art galleries, enjoying a live music show or enjoying one of the seasonal festivals held annually.
Climate
Permanent Corpus residents have the luxury of enjoying the warm climate over the winter, as do the thousands of snowbirds who flock to the area each year. The cool Gulf breeze keeps high temperatures cooler in the summer months than you would find in most other areas of Texas. Average highs in July hover around 93 degrees Fahrenheit while January averages rarely fall below the high 40's. Snow is rare so close to the southern border, so Mirador assisted living residents can have confidence planning warmer weather activities.
Medical Care
Most daily medical needs for our residents are handled by our skilled nursing staff who are qualified to provide a variety of health services, including for those requiring memory support. Most rehabilitation needs can also be obtained onsite if they are short-term and considered outpatient. For more complex medical needs, Corpus Christi offers several hospitals and medical facilities, including the Christus Spohn Hospital, located less than ten minutes away from Mirador. The hospital features a Comprehensive Stroke Center that is equipped to handle serious stroke events. Just a little further away is the Corpus Christi Medical Center - Bay Area, designated as a Primary Stroke Center and Chest Pain Center. This means you have options when it comes to your preferred medical care providers.
