Hard times are useful for a handful of things. From a Biblical perspective, our weaknesses and struggles are an opportunity for God to be glorified. 2 Corinthians 12:10 says “That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” On a smaller and more personal scale, a difficult season of life is an opportunity for those in the community to step up and serve.
Making the decision to place a loved one in a memory support community may be the most difficult decision you have ever made. We often make noble promises to family members under the false idea that nursing communities are lonely, stale places where our loved ones receive subpar care. Because the decision and the stigma that comes with it can be so heart-wrenching, families often put it off.
Get to know your MRC Mirador Marketing Team. What brought you to Mirador? Vanessa Hancock, Sales & Marketing Director, has been here since the opening of Mirador. Vanessa: I was recommended for the Healthcare Sales Director position prior to Mirador opening in 2011. I researched the company and there was nothing like Mirador in Corpus Christi offering such an innovative way to live out the retirement years and secure the financial future for residents in their later years. I was also excited to be a part of an organization that could offer premium quality care to our local community… I’m so happy that this opportunity was offered to me and it’s been a blessing to serve so many fabulous people.
Caring for someone with dementia is easily a full-time task. Richard and Janis Whatley have been married for over 52 years, and Mr. Whatley has been his wife’s caregiver since her Alzheimer’s diagnosis 5 years ago. The couple has known about MRC Mirador since its early years, but only began calling MRC home earlier this year. Mrs. Whatley moved into Memory Support in June, and Mr. Whatley followed-suit, moving into Independent Living in October.
