Hi there,
My name is Barbara Martin, and I am so happy to be a recent part of the MRC Family here at Mirador in Corpus Christi, Texas. I used to be a computer programming analyst, but God led me to pursue a different route. I went back to school and received my Master’s Degree in Chaplaincy, completed my training at the Medical Center in Houston, and became a certified chaplain in 2005.
For the past 15 years, I have worked as a chaplain in hospital, hospice and nursing community settings, and have enjoyed every minute of it. God has gifted me with the ability to be a good listener, and I love listening to people’s stories and how their story interacts with other people in their lives.
When I started working at Mirador in March, I hit the ground running and never looked back. We have a very active Lifestyles group here! The team provides activities and meaningful experiences to all of our residents, including the employees.
I’m still learning what an incredible blessing I have been given, to be a part of such an awesome community. We truly are extended family, both residents and staff, and to see everyone working together, enjoying activities together, worshiping together, singing together and learning together is a life changing experience. At Mirador, everyone cares about each other, wants the best for one another, and will go out of their way to help the family in whatever way we can.
My encouragement to you this Pastor Appreciation Month is to invest yourself in your community. Write a letter to your spiritual leader, savor the quality time you have in social groups, and if you have neither, consider joining the Mirador family as a volunteer or as a neighbor.
My heart sings every morning as I walk through the door, greeting staff and residents in the hallway, and seeking to be a part of the solution as we all work together for a common cause: our Mirador family.
Blessings,
Barbara Martin
