In early 2019, an excited, yet nervous Deborah Nugent, Executive Director at Mirador, stood before the resident body to introduce an organization called Methodist Retirement Communities (MRC) who would soon take ownership of the community. Mirador originally opened its doors in 2011, becoming the Coastal Bend’s only Life Care community. However, with some shifts within their parent organization, they found themselves “on the market” in 2018. The beauty of the campus, paired with the expertise of the team drew MRC’s attention very early in the process. After Deborah and team hosted members of the MRC team for a discovery visit and tour, the hopes for a future together became a source of excitement for all parties.
Finally, in March of 2019 the change was final, making Mirador an official MRC community. The occasion was commemorated with a “Culture Day” luncheon where the Mirador team was treated to lunch while the MRC team shared more about the mission and vision of the organization. Deborah Nugent, Executive Director recalled, “I can remember many of us were moved to tears by the presentation that day.”
Nugent went on to list the many accomplishments the community has had since the milestone change. “We have had almost every common area of our community updated and refreshed, both interior and exterior. Before MRC, there was lots of deferred maintenance from the previous owner, MRC came in and addressed those issues and, in the process, brought great confidence to residents and staff alike.”
“Sure, we’d like to think that Mirador has benefited from the acquisition, but it seems to me, MRC is the real winner in the equation,” said Jill Janes, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, “Why? It’s the people, they have added so much to our organization! For example, the residents of Mirador have shared their employee scholarship program and process with the entire MRC system which has literally been life changing for those involved.” Nugent chimed in, “It’s like Mirador’s heart and MRC’s heart have been a perfect match from the very start.”
